OUR MISSION

OUR MISSION

Feeding Curiosity Since 2004

Sixteen years ago, our founder’s dream was to disrupt the food world by making more mindful and delicious nut butters. We started with a spark of curiosity. Could you take nut-butter on a bike ride? Could it be organic and crazy delicious? Why Not?!

Since then, Why Not?! has become our rallying cry for innovation and exploration. Insatiable curiosity and a willingness to go against the grind drives all of our environmental and social work, pushing us to think bigger, be better, and go further.

But we can’t do it alone. We’re building a collective that’s nuts about making the world a more resilient, well-fed place—and everyone is invited. From sustainable sourcing to pollinator protection, packaging waste to hunger relief, together we’re creating a better food system.

Because, Why Not?!
CHALLENGING OURSELVES
At JUSTIN'S®, we've never been the sit-back kind of company. We're always imagining,
doing, and exploring. Always challenging ourselves to do and be better. We take this approach
into every aspect of our business, from sourcing to packaging to employee well-being.
Ingredients & Sourcing

In order to make naturally delicious nut butters, snacks and organic nut butter cups, we’re constantly evaluating how we source ingredients. We’re always on the hunt for high-quality, sustainable ingredients, and we are not afraid to ask the tough questions about how they’re grown, handled and shipped.

At JUSTIN’S® we strive to source our ingredients as mindfully as possible and use organic ingredients whenever possible. All of our nut butter cups are made with organic ingredients and are USDA Certified Organic. While our nut butters and snacks are not certified, most of our secondary ingredients are organic.

JUSTIN’S® not only values mindfully-sourced ingredients, but also transparency. That’s why we strive to use sustainably sourced ingredients from domestic suppliers.

JUSTIN’S® is committed to sourcing the highest-quality ingredients, and we believe that people should be able to make informed choices about the foods they eat. That is why we only use Non-GMO Project Verified ingredients in our products.

From the beginning, JUSTIN’S® has been focused on the responsible sourcing of all our ingredients, including our palm oil, and we are constantly pushing the supply chain for advancements in this area. We are members of the RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil), which currently represents about 20% of the total palm oil supply. The RSPO encourages sustainable growing practices and human rights initiatives at the farm level, while promoting education about the cultivation and use of certified sustainable palm oil. RSPO is the leading organization to date for sustainably sourced palm oil and JUSTIN’S® is proud to be among the companies who are actively involved. The palm oil used in our products is also considered orangutan friendly as part of our partnership with the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, as it is sustainably sourced and deforestation free.

At JUSTIN’S® we strive for sustainability and conscientiousness in all of our work. We are proud to source Rainforest Alliance Certified™ cocoa for our products. This organization goes to great lengths to ensure the safety and quality of the farms from where we source our cocoa. Rainforest Alliance accomplishes this by defining the criteria for suitable labor conditions, educating and training its farmers, and monitoring labor practices on farms through the certification audits and specific studies. Additionally, our chocolate is organic, which prohibits the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, thus increasing soil biodiversity.

Most almonds in the world are treated with the chemical and known carcinogen propylene oxide (PPO). Instead of doing this, we’ve chosen to have all our almonds steam pasteurized.

Packaging

How we package our products matters, because we want to feel as good about our packaging as we do about the products inside. By constantly exploring sustainable packaging solutions and educating our consumers on packaging waste, we’re working to create a better food system and reduce our impact on the environment.

Our jars are recyclable and are produced without the intentional addition of BPA, so that people can feel good every time they enjoy a jar of our nut butter.

We’ve partnered with How2Recycle and are adding their logo onto our packaging so that we can better communicate how to properly dispose of our packaging.

Our team is constantly looking for more sustainable options for our packaging. Since we know we can’t do it alone, we’ve partnered with sustainable packaging organizations to find more environmentally friendly solutions.

In 2022, we transitioned to nut butter jars that use 30% less plastic (while holding the same amount of delicious nut butter). We’re proud of this step in our sustainability journey to help reduce the impact of our products on the environment by reducing virgin plastic and are continuing to seek more sustainable packaging options so that we can feel as good about our packaging as we do about the products inside.

*16oz and 28oz jars

We’re constantly working on packaging solutions so we can feel as good about our packaging as we do the product inside. In 2010, we hosted the first-ever sustainable squeeze pack summit to discuss the state of the industry and how we can collectively make advancements in this space. We’ve made strides along the way, but a bio-based film that can hold nut butter still does not exist. Today, we are actively looking and testing different materials.

Pollinators are responsible for one in three bites of food we eat, and there would BEE no JUSTIN’S® products without them! But honeybees are dying off at a rate of 39% per year*. That’s why we’ve joined forces with national, state, and local organizations that are working to protect pollinators through habitat conservation and expansion, sustainable agriculture, research and education.

Read more below about the partners we’re working with and look out for the pollinator-friendly badge on our product packaging, which showcases our commitment to protecting our buzzy little buddies.
