Questions about nut butters

What you are seeing in your Chocolate Hazelnut Butter or Vanilla Almond Butter jars is called cocoa bloom. This occurs naturally when the cocoa butter separates, solidifies and rises to the surface of the jar. Although this blooming is not a food safety hazard, and it is still consumable, we understand how the appearance may be alarming.

No. Right now, there is no technology that exists for a fully compostable or recyclable squeeze pack (but we’ll continue to explore this as a possibility!).

We truly appreciate your feedback and suggestion! Glass jars are more susceptible to breakage in production and shipping. Our 100% BPA-free recyclable plastic jars provide for a shatter-free experience.

In 2022, we transitioned to nut butter jars that use 30% less plastic (while holding the same amount of delicious nut butter). We’re proud of this step in our sustainability journey to help reduce the impact of our products on the environment by reducing virgin plastic and are continuing to seek more sustainable packaging options so that we can feel as good about our packaging as we do about the products inside.

Nope! We recommend storing our nut butters at room temperature so that it is easier to spread.

The optimal shelf life of our nut butters is 1 year from its manufacturing date. From a food safety standpoint, our nut butters are safe to consumer past the optimal shelf life, however product quality will decrease the longer it sits past the optimal shelf life. As with any product made without artificial preservatives, we recommend eating our nut butters by the Best By Date (which is printed on the jar).

At JUSTIN’S®, we are committed to sourcing the highest quality ingredients, and we believe that our consumers should be able to make informed choices about the foods they eat. That is why we only source GMO-free ingredients in our products, and why we have verified our entire product line through the Non-GMO Project.

All of our nut butters are dairy-free. Additionally, most do not contain animal by-products, excluding Honey Almond Butter and Honey Peanut Butter jars and Squeeze Packs, which all contain honey.

Our nut butters and nut butter cups are Kosher! All products are certified by OU Kosher.

Yes, our Classic Almond Butter and Classic Peanut Butter are all free of added sugar and salt.

JUSTIN’S® uses a steam pasteurization method to assure salmonella prevention.

We apologize for the inconvenience and frustration. Our nut butters should always be creamy and delicious! Although we strive to minimize oil separation in all of our nut butters, the nut butter should never be so dry that it is difficult to spread or get out of the jar. If you’ve experienced this, we recommend noting the best by date printed on the jar. Next time you’re at the store, be sure to pick up a jar with a different best by date to ensure it’s coming from a different batch. Additionally, we would love to hear from you if you’ve experienced this so we can fix it!

Our nut butter cups are made with organic ingredients. While our nut butters are not certified organic, most of our secondary ingredients are organic and we strive to source our ingredients as mindfully as possible and use organic ingredients wherever possible. If you have any additional questions, we’d love to hear your thoughts!
