Justin's - Giving Back

Conscious Alliance

At Justin's, we all feel an acute need to give back to the community in the most impactful manner possible with the understanding we are a small, growing company. Being a healthy and optimal food source for impoverished communities, Justin's has chosen to reach out and support a local organization whose impact is far reaching. Our answer is The Conscious Alliance.

The Conscious Alliance is a grass-roots organization that provides youth awareness programs on severe hunger issues through its "Art that Feeds" program and other outreach initiatives. Through these programs, Conscious Alliance has collected and distributed over one million pounds of non-perishable food donations to domestic food pantries and global disaster relief programs over the past six years.

Justin's has raised over $12,000, has donated 1000's of pounds of nut butter and staff have volunteered time in support of Conscious Alliance's efforts. Justin's is very excited and proud to be part of such a beneficial organization and have a goal of supporting Conscious Alliance in every way they can.

Justin's will be focusing much of our support towards the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Pine Ridge is home to the 2nd poorest county in the nation and is only 407 miles from our offices. On this reservation:

  • The unemployment rate is 85%
  • 63% of the population lives below the poverty line
  • The average annual household income is $3,700
  • Teen suicide rate is 150% higher than the US average
  • Only 1 in 4 households has a working toilet
  • Children on the reservation go hungry an average of once per week

    Microloan a Month Fund

Beyond our local efforts, we also feel the need to support the efforts of entrepreneurship around the world. In 2007, Justin's was the first of Whole Foods Market's Local Producer Loan recipients in the grocer's Rocky Mountain Region. Justin Gold, CEO and founder of Justin's explains, "Because of the loan and support of Whole Foods Market, I was able to grow with Whole Foods Market nationally. Becoming the founding member of the Microloan-a-Month program was a way for us to show our appreciation and also help people and businesses around the world; helping give others the help we were given."

In the spirit of entrepreneurship and paying it forward, Justin's will fund a microloan a month for Whole Planet Foundation, which in turn will be loaned to entrepreneurs in the developing world.

"The impact of a microloan is extends well beyond just the individual who receives the money," said Whole Planet Foundation's president and executive director, Philip Sansone. "Providing access to credit empowers poor entrepreneurs to create better lives for themselves, brighter futures for their families and a lasting impact on their communities."

  • Whole Planet Foundation supports entrepreneurs in 55 countries, empowering 1.4 million people worldwide.
  • Everymonth, an entrepreneur will continue to receive a small loan, that can revolutionize the way of life in his or her commmunity.
