Do I need to refrigerate after opening?
Nope! Actually, no nut butters need to be refrigerated but some people choose to in order to minimize oil separation.
Are your products Dairy-Free? Vegan?
All of our nut butters are dairy-free but note that our Honey Almond Butter and Honey Peanut Butters contain honey powder and are therefore not vegan. Our Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups do not contain any dairy products but they are manufactured on the same equipment as our Milk Chocolate.
Are your products Gluten-Free?
All of our nut butters, peanut butter cups and candy bars are gluten-free! They are all certified by the GFCO.
Are your products Kosher?
Our nut butters and peanut butter cups are Kosher! Both are certified by OU Kosher.
Do your products contain GMOs?
None of our products contain GMOs (genetically modified organisms).
We are currently in the process of verifying our products with the Non-GMO Project in order to bear the Non-GMO Project Seal on our packaging.
Why does Justin's use palm fruit oil?
-We use palm fruit oil because it minimizes oil separation which many consumers prefer. We source our palm fruit oil from a sustainably harvested farm in Brazil.
-Palm fruit oil contains no trans-fatty acids and much less saturated fat than coconut and palm kernel oil (all of which are still great alternatives to hydrogenated oils). To find out more click here.
Why does my Peanut Butter Cup look discolored and cloudy?
The discoloration you may notice in the chocolate or dry filling in your Peanut Butter Cups is caused by what is known as cocoa bloom. When chocolate reaches temperatures above 75įF, the cocoa butter can change from solid to liquid and move toward the surface of the cup. Exposure to cool temperatures following the bloom causes the cocoa butter crystals to form a thin, lightly colored powder on the surface. As a result, this may cause the chocolate to appear whitish or even make the dark chocolate look like milk chocolate. This process can also lead to dry peanut butter filling inside the cup. Justin's Peanut Butter Cups should be kept out of direct sunlight and stored between 60įF and 70įF.
While we work hard to ensure that our candy is cooled and transported correctly, once it leaves our facility we cannot always guarantee that it is properly handled. If you come across bloomed peanut butter cups, please let us know the where you purchased it and the best by date and we will work with our retailer and distributor partners to look into the issue further.
What are the white spots/coating on the surface of my nut butter?
What you are seeing in your Chocolate Hazelnut Butter, Chocolate Almond Butter or Vanilla Almond Butter jars is called cocoa bloom. This occurs naturally when the cocoa butter separates, solidifies and rises to the surface of the jar. Although this blooming is not a food safety hazard, and you can definitely stir it back into the nut butter, we understand how the appearance may be alarming. If you would like to send us the flavor and best by date and a picture of the cocoa bloom, we'd love to track the batch as well as replace your jar!
What are aflatoxins?
These natural toxins are produced by certain strains of the mold Aspergillus flavus and A. parasiticus and are known to grow on peanuts and other crops stored in warm, humid environments. Since peanuts are highly susceptible to aflatoxin, most companies (including Justin's) take careful initiatives to make sure that their products are safe for the market. Because "natural" peanut butters are much less processed than the conventional brands, they are more likely to face issues with contamination. In order to make sure our nut butters are of the highest safety and quality, Justin's goes to great lengths to double test for aflatoxins, and maintains extremely detailed records and safety certification reports for each and every batch. The aflatoxin levels in all of our nut butters are well below the maximum amount regulated by the FDA, and fall within a range of 0-15 ppb.

Are there flavors with no-sugar added?
Yes, our Classic Almond Butter and Classic Peanut Butter are both no-sugar, no-salt added.
What is the almond pasteurization?
Almond pasteurization or treatment is US mandated to assure salmonella prevention. Justinís uses a steam pasteurization method. To find out more click here.
